American master musician Gunnar Schonbeck taught at Bennington College for over 50 years during which he created an orchestra of fantastic & fantastical instruments and an equally remarkable community of folks that played & performed upon them. “Want to play in an orchestra concert? No experience required!” the poster would say. ALL were welcome. And all still are!
As curator and workshop leader of this unique exhibit I invite you all to come and play them today! At MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts in the immersive gallery exhibit “Gunnar Schonbeck: No Experience Required” Come play a 2 x4 Xylophone, a giant Koto, pair of 7 ft conga drums, an 8ft reed horn and a 9 ft banjo! Or just play a red 6 ft fiddle and sing along!
